YANKEE STORY: ANTHONY RIZZO

Anthony Rizzo is a professional baseball player who currently plays as a first baseman for the New York Yankees in Major League Baseball (MLB). He was born on August 8, 1989, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and grew up in the nearby city of Parkland.

Rizzo was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the sixth round of the 2007 MLB draft, and he made his major league debut with them in 2011. He played for the Red Sox until he was traded to the San Diego Padres in 2010. After a brief stint with the Padres, he was traded to the Chicago Cubs in 2012, where he played for nine seasons, becoming a fan favorite and a key player on the team that won the World Series in 2016.

In July 2021, Rizzo was traded to the New York Yankees, where he has quickly become an important part of the team’s lineup. He is known for his powerful hitting, as well as his excellent fielding and leadership on and off the field. He has been named an All-Star three times and has won four Gold Glove Awards for his outstanding defensive play.

Off the field, Rizzo is known for his charitable work, particularly his support for pediatric cancer research. He was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2008, but he was able to overcome the disease and has used his platform as a professional athlete to raise awareness and funds for cancer research.
