Jefry Yan is a Dominican professional baseball pitcher currently with the New York Mets of Major League Baseball. He has previously played in Nippon Professional Baseball for the Saitama Seibu Lions in Japan. Yan in his home in the Dominican Republic was named “La Sentencia 99” for his celebrations as it all began during his minor league career. Yan created a habit that when he would struckout a batter he would jump high in the air landing in an near-split position the before slapping the ground and returning to the mound. Since 2025 at spring training and at his Major League Debut in 2026. Yan on April 27, 2013 signed with the Los Angeles Angeles as a International free agent and making his professional debut in 2014 with the Dominican Summer League Angels for whom he spent the 2015 season with as well. In his 41 relief apprearances across two seasons, Yan ened up with a 6-3 record and a high ERA of 4.22 with 43 strikeouts in 59 plus innings. In 2016 while with the Los Angeles Angels Yan underwent Tommy John surgery and missed the season due recovery. On April 29, 2021 Yan after having been out of professional baseball Yan began working reparing roofs as a full time employee. Yan then signed a minor league contract with the Miami Marlins as Yan was discovered by the team while pitching in a men’s league in Arizona. as a result of the signing Yan then split the season between the Single A Jupiter Hammerheads and Double AA Pensacola Blue Wahoos as he trhen appeared in 21 games from the bullpen with a posted a 2.61 ERA with 51 strikeouts across 31 innings. However, in 2022 Yan returned to Pensacola and participated in 38 appearances, he pitched and earned a 2-4 record and a high 4.89 ERA with 88 strikeouts in the 57 innings he had pitched.
Yan split the 2023 season between Pensacola and the Triple-A Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. In 49 relief appearances between the two affiliates, he had a 3–5 record and 4.89 ERA with 102 strikeouts and 13 saves across 57 innings. As a result Yan was named a Southern League All-Star for his work as Pensacola’s closer during the year. Yan then elected free agency following the season on November 6, 2023. Yan then 2024, Yan pitched for the Saitama Seibu Lions in Japans Nippon Professional Baseball (npb) league.
Yan had posted 37 relief appearances with an ERA of 5.58, 35 Strikeouts in 30.2 innings pitched. 2025, Yan joined the Colorado Rockies minor league Alburqurque of the PCL and played for the Estrellas Orientales and the Leones Del Escojido in the Dominican Republic, 2026 Yan then joined the Syracuse Mets and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies and finally the New York Mets.
