UPS AND DOWNS IN APRIL OF THE 2026 BASEBALL SEASON

by: Ismael Nunez

Wow its the baseball season already and we’ve seen ups and downs! Especially here in New York City. Yet let’s start with other places. In the National Eastern Division the Atlanta Braves are in first place, second place it’s the Florida Marlins. Yet the two teams everyone expected to do well, the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets, are below .500.

What’s wrong with the NEW YORK METS! 12 losses in a row! Nothing is working with the trades they made in the off season, no one is hitting, the pitching, which for years was the backbone of their organization, isn’t coming through. It’s more like watching the Bad News Bears and the Charlie Brown All Stars! Changes have to be made now! The earlier the better. Some NY Mets fans are most likely saying “Wait till next year”. Is the jinx of last year’s not making the playoffs still in effect?

The Cincinnati Reds are in first place in the National League Central Division, while on the other side of the state the Cleveland Guardians are in first place in the American League Central Division. Wow an Ohio World Series! Many in that state would love to see it happen. To add, it’ll be nice for all star third baseman Jose Ramirez to have a ring. If he keeps going with consistency he could join his fellow Dominican Brothers in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

In the American League West everyone is struggling yet the Oakland Athletics are playing good ball. Who knows, they might face the Los Angles Dodgers in 2026 World Series. Currently the Dodgers are the only team with a winning percentage over .700 and are in first place in the National League West. You can be sure they are sure favorites to win again for the third straight year, maybe facing the Athletics? Speaking of California did one see Mike Trout against the New York Yankees this past series against the Yankees. If he can stay healthy wow he just might win “Comeback Player of the Year”, let’s wish him will. Yet will he get a ring with the Anaheim Angles? We have to wait and see or will he do what his former teammate Shohei Ohtani did, leave the Angles? Let’s just wait and see.
